Vitić’s or Colorful Skyscraper is one of Zagreb’s modern buildings that fascinates citizens and visitors with its clear beauty and originality. The residential building on Laginjina Street by architect Ivan Vitić is a protected cultural property. It is interpolated on the southeast corner of the block Vlaška-Vojnovićeva-Laginjina-Bauerova streets. It was built between 1958 and 1962 as a complex of residential buildings interconnected by a system of galleries according to a highly conceived project. It consists of three buildings: a skyscraper and two lower buildings, a three-story and a four-story building. The name “colourful skyscraper” was given due to its Mondrian-like coloured facade, i.e. yellow, blue, green and red surfaces. In a functional and formal sense, this skyscraper is a modern, architectural and design solution that consciously “modernizes” the found urban frames. Documenting the expressive and technical possibilities of its time, the building at Laginjina Street 7-9 is an exceptional example of modern architecture.
