The hotel was built in 1968 as the “Youth Hotel Sport”. The author of the original project was Slavko Jelinek. With its 75 meters in height and 19 accommodation floors, it is still the tallest hotel in Croatia. Over time, the hotel has been expanded several times. Zonar Zagreb is located in the western part of the city, a cultural and sports centre. With its strategic position in the city, on the ‘Square of Events’, oriented towards the younger dynamic population, it becomes a vibrant point, a new hot landmark, support for public life and an extension of the square. The ground floor of the hotel and the mezzanine are of a public character. In the parterre, there are complexes of bars and a large restaurant that serves the southern and northern terraces, and the central zone of the building is a large cafe or co-working space with different ambient characters. The mezzanine consists of a series of transformable boxes for different types of events in constant change, and in the centre is a ‘mice forum’ multipurpose space with a central lounge area that is used as a soft chat and pop-up reception for a series of events. The tower consists of accommodation units, and the roof of the tower is activated within the existing limits with a new panoramic elevator and transformed into a landscape bar from which an unobstructed panoramic view of the city extends.
